Chris Paul’s Skill Passing

It was just a quick three-day camp but it was an amazing learning experience for those who were there. Chris Paul, along with Jim Stoll and the coaches from around the metro area, teamed up to help kids develop their games.

The camp was divided into a morning session and an afternoon session, the morning being for 7-10 year olds and the afternoon for 11-18 year olds. From there, they divided the kids by their ages into 18 separate groups.

Every single person there got to see CP3 himself giving speeches and pep talks. Most of these were stories about growing up, his time with the Hornets, and his experience in China with the US national team last summer.

Everything you can possibly imagine regarding the game of basketball was brought up when it came to drills. Between layups and three pointers, free throws, bounce passes, long-range passes, dribbling, picks, screens, and more, everyone benefited from the variety and originality of all of the drills.

There were also scrimmage games and tournaments. Teams were divided by age group and Chris Paul and the coaches watched every game. A nice touch to it all was an award they’d give out each day to one camper, based on either performance, work ethic, or sportsmanship.

The best part was probably the fact that we actually got to play against CP3 in certain games and drills. If we beat him, they gave away actual prizes.

Personally, I got a lot out of it and really feel like my basketball skills improved noticeably from my time spent at the camp. While the drills were draining and difficult, they became easier over time.

The games really gave me an opportunity to go against some of the better high school players from around the US, and also to learn some more in the game skills department. I’ll never forget the experience I had at this camp, learning from perhaps the best point guard today, and listening to his advice and taking it to heart. I recommend this camp to any young basketball players who may be looking for a little bit more to really put them over the top because I promise you, you will pick something up at this camp.
